Projection Augmented Model Setup guide

August 2024 - Update
Make sure the laptop you are using for the projection interface has the display setting resolution set to 1920x1080 and the screen zoom level set to 100-125%. These are fairly standard settings and you will not need to change them on most laptops.

These setup instructions are based on use with standard landscape printed landscape models with approximate 1100 x 850 mm dimensions. Smaller models will work with smaller tables.

Table and projector setup.

  1. Make sure you have a solid wooden table with a non-tapered edge as shown below (Fig1). Plastic ‘camping’ tables are not robust enough to hold the clamp and projector in place.

2. Assure the table size is sufficient to allow space for the model and projection area of the map and map menu items. The minimum dimensions for a standard model size is around 1.3 x 1.6m, as shown below (Fig 2).

3. Mount the projector to the table using the table mount and extender poles, as shown below (Fig 3). It is easiest to attach the power lead and HDMI cables to the back of the projector before mounting it on the extender pole.

4. Mount the projector to the table using the table mount and extender poles, as shown below (Fig 3). It is easiest to attach the power lead and HDMI cables to the back of the projector before mounting it on the extender pole.

Troubleshooting

  1.  alignment;

    1. go to step 4 and make sure the projector is pointing vertically down.

    2. Make sure the browser is in full-screen mode. This is F11 on the Chrome browser

    3. . Make sure the projector is high enough to display the map over the model while leaving room for the menu items.

    4. Don’t be overly pedantic about perfect alignment.

  2. If the table space available to you is either;

    1. Too small

    2. Too flimsy

    3. Does not have the right edge for clamping

An easy fix is to use an additional small (coffee table) to attach to the projector as shown below.
